Thomas F. Wilson, Jr.
President and founder of Summit America Insurance Services, Mr. Wilson has over twenty five years of experience in the insurance industry. Prior to his career in insurance, he was a Varsity basketball letterman and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Georgia Institute of Technology and his Masters of Education from Georgia State University. After a successful teaching and basketball coaching career (including two National Small College championships at Florida College), he entered the corporate insurance arena in 1979, joining State Mutual Life of Worcester, Massachusetts. Mr. Wilson received his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation in 1980.
In 1985, Mr. Wilson left his position as vice President of group sales and manpower development to join American Sports Underwriters of Boston, Massachusetts. In 1986, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri and formed National Sports Underwriters (NSU). NSU specialized in college and high school sports insurance and gained the endorsement of the NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA, as well as over twenty state high school associations and numerous Olympic and amateur sports associations. With annual premium of approximately $30,000,000, NSU was sold to K&K Insurance Group in 1992.
From 1992 to 1999, Mr. Wilson worked as a specialty insurance consultant, founded and managed Sixth Man Development Corporation, and invested in Somerton Student Insurance Services and Sports Management Associates. In 1999, Mr. Wilson established Summit America Insurance Services and as President and CEO has directed its growth into the premier Student and Sports Insurance agency in the nation with over 1000 College and University clients.
